I have a small saying on my favorite watch that says “we do not remember days – we remember moments”

Recently I have been in a more than usual reminiscent mode and it is true- try as I might I realized I can only capture a portion of the good, the bad, the wonderful, and the sad. Perhaps it is a way to downsize or equalize our emotions???? I do believe everything is a balancing act (maybe not the right word all the time but even that is a thought to ponder-is it an act-better not be) …. As I try and balance today- I will see if I can tip the scale in the direction of Starbucks!

Along with that is the -said and the not said- where you expected to hear one thing and then either hear differently ….or not at all.

I went to bed with a fun idea for the beginning of my contribution to the sister blog. I want to call my section Better Blog- which could lead to a Better Book!-

I will explain it when I do it but it is based on everyone adding their two cents with an opening lead

There are a hundred saying that can begin with better-

Better late than never

Better to take the high ground

Better not do that

Better pace yourself

Better play nice

Better be good

Better Homes and Gardens

Better go home

…. Add all you can and then we will start one and everyone can add a memory or something about themselves

I am going to start it with

Better late than never ….

I feel like every day I have to re-evaluate myself and the day and the people who I recognize being a part of my life. ( I now understand our reach is much further and we touch many more than we will ever know)

Long ago I realized my challenge is to be me- not someone else or who someone might want me to be. To do this I have to listen to my heart and find my place( better make a mark…-so I can find since it does appear that my place changes daily

My daily prayer- which I do very consciously is to ask God to put me where I need to be that day and let my heart be open to his will and his guiding hand.

It is as simple and as complicated as my hope to be the best of whatever he wants me to be (it sounds so general-I guess that is why it sounds easy- oh here it comes again.... better to keep it simple. (Which results in me being …..better!)

I use to sit outside every day with a cup of hot tea (even in the winter) before everyone got up in the morning when the kids were little. I struggled to be quiet long enough to get out the door, listen to the birds and have time alone to say this prayer- and frankly wait for instructions. Michael knew where to look for me before he left for work. Sometimes he would say …why are you still out here? Better come in….........ma

My truth might be "Coffee is my very best friend"... Sometimes when I take a sip I sigh and say "AAHHH... Better..."

“Better have a latte…

"Better enjoy it now, it may not last"

"Better think before you talk"

"Better consider it from someone else's perspective"

"Better stop and get gas... and milk... and bread... and dog food... and peanut butter... and ..."

"Better remember them in my prayers..."

"Tomorrow will be Better"

"Better write that down..."

"Better find something funny to think about..."

"Better get to bed and finish this tomorrow..."

Better not pout

Better not cry...

Better safe than sorry...

Better half....

Better than all the rest....

Better days are coming...

I thought better of it....

You are a better man than I...

I know better....

Our mother shows up at the most amazing times... and when it happens it seems to stop me in my tracks.

As you know, Sam has embarked on an "Ecumenical Vacation Bible School Tour" this summer in Little Rock. Sort of a tour like a "rock star" only with Christianity as the "rock"

This week Sam is attending the Lutheran version. Their theme is "The Great Bible Reef". As you might guess, each of the children attending is divided into a group according to age and school year.

When the first session was finished last night, I was there to pick up Sam. Typically, I asked him if he had a good time.

Sam explained that he had a great time and that "Grandma" was there with him on this vacation bible school.

I stopped walking and looked at him, and asked... "What do you mean?" Sam explained that in the Great Bible Reef there are many kinds of fish in the sea, just like there are many kinds of people in the world. All of the children were assigned a different kind of fish in the sea... and Sam had been assigned the "Clownfish". He didn't choose it, but it was on his assignment list.

Sam described that Grandma's favorite movie was "Finding Nemo", which she watched with him at Northwest Plaza (the date was July 12, 2003, by the way) Sam said he knew Grandma was there because who else would have chosen "Nemo" for him... he knew it was Grandma! :):)

So... I was also thinking... Perhaps Mom was sending "birthday wishes" to Sam since it was so close to his birthday, and so close to the time we saw "Finding Nemo" with her. ;)

Well... If you will remember not to discuss it with the "general", our mother would be having a birthday today. That is, if she hadn't given it away to a lady downtown who didn't have one. Break open your beverage of choice (coffee - sweet and light) or (Seagrams and 7up)and toast our mother on her special "un-birthday". Those who live close to a Steak 'n Shake, may also celebrate with a hearty bowl of chili mac.

Happy Day, Mom! You are missed and loved!o:)

Some prayers to honor our mother

Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, known and unknown, not only because I dread the loss of heaven and dread the pains of hell, and not only because Thou art my Creator, my Redeemer and my Sanctifier, but most of all because my sins have offended Thee, my God, Who art all good in Thyself and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life. Amen.

Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to they protection, implored they help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Prayer to Guardian Angel
Angel of God, my guardian dear,
To whom God’s love commits me here;
Ever this day be at my side,
To light and guard, to rule and guide.

My Goodness! Or Perhaps "Heavens to Betsy"... Its December and Christmas will soon arrive, whether we are ready or not! Sometimes it is unbelievable to consider our preparedness for such a major event. When the stress gets too high we can always quote, " Be Happy (*%@%*) It's Christmas!" Doesn't that say it all?

Hallo? Hallo?
Spoolies should have arrived by now. I heard from our sister, Kay, regarding a Thanksgiving gathering. It would be a great time to have a "sister picture" with all the sister's wearing their Spoolies! Ha-ha!
